Adam Klein History
In 1851, Adam Klein, a native of Oberndorf, Germany, and his fiancée, Friedericke Klenk, set out from Europe for America. Married by the captain of the ship Elizabeth Hamilton while crossing the Atlantic, the couple landed in New Orleans in January 1852. They made their way to Hermann, Missouri, where Friedericke had a half-brother. Adam went west to California in the gold rush, found gold, then came to settle in Texas with Friedericke. In 1854 Adam bought land along Cypress Creek in northern Harris County for 33.5 cents an acre. Other Germans were also establishing farms in the area; many Klein schools are named after these German settlers. When a post office was established here in 1884, it was called the Klein post office. The community then became known as the Klein community.
